Pretty ape, bad movie - King Kong Reviews
OK I have been reading the reviews and I think I have figured out what is different between what I saw in this movie and the others did. I thing the job at rendering and moving Kong was great. The Ape looked amazingly real. But, here is where I disconnect with the other side of the debate; there still needs to be a good movie around the pretty ape.
This movie is almost exactly 1 hour and 22 min too long. The bloat is primarily on the back story of the human characters. Oddly omitted though was any back story on Kong himself. However we were made painfully aware of the back story of each of the people. I know that the director wants to make a movie, the writer wants to write a movie, and the actress is in the movie. This much is obvious by their merely being on the boat. Why did we need a 70 some odd min back story? Also there was a lot of repetition to the shots used in the movie. Normally this is not even noticeable but in over three hours such things don?t just repeat once but 5 or 7 times!
I think the saddest thing about this is the number of special effects mistakes. Kong grows and shrinks by 10 feet randomly throughout the movie. There were a lot of compositing mistakes in which the live action looks to be sliding around on ice as the computer animated stuff rolls on.
