Great production...great acting...so so movie. - King Kong Reviews

Okay, here it is. Peter Jackson is great. He can tell a story in such a way as to keep you on the edge of your seat, even when the story is as bad as this one. By now you all know the story of King Kong. People go find ape...ape falls in love with winsome actress...people capture ape...ape climbs Empire State Building with actress...ape gets killed. Sorry, but that really is all there is to the story line. Now, what Peter Jackson and a great cast do is make the story more interesting than just that...for 3 hours...then you go away feeling "Yeah...so what". Jackson does so much in staying true to the original story and adding some great CGI scenes and a story of a prehistoric world to give Kong some more believability. He does a great job of showing the development of the bond between Ann Darrow and Kong. But in the end, not even Jackson's brilliance can save this story. I don't know...just something about the story that really is just not that intriguing...It plays well on a big screen, visually, but the story is made for a movie of the week or something. When the movie is over, you just feel a bit gypped...as if Jackson's direction and the great acting of Adrian Brody and Jack Black should somehow make the story more fulfilling. It just never happens. The movie is a wonderful rollercoaster ride that, when it is over, leaves you saying that it was a nice ride, but you don't care to ride it ever again. Enjoy the movie for what it is...a novelty that wears off the minute after you see it.
